Consistency

I haven’t written here since I was pregnant in 2018. The baby is 14 months now. I’m sitting in traffic looking forward to visiting family.

My blood sugar has dramatically improved. If you’re following me here, come follow my Insta at selahinthelight and follow my Facebook group called The Happy Journey.

Here’s my Instapost for today! Wishing you a bright and Healthy Holiday season πŸŒ²πŸŒ²πŸŒ²πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

My Questions about Cutting Carbs

I’m not an expert, but I’m curious and so I have questions. I am also cautious when it comes to nutrition experts because sometimes you run across a scam or someone who doesn’t have all the information; and it really isn’t possible for anyone (even an expert) to know everything. That doesn’t make everyone dishonest, but it’s out there. Normally if someone is truly trying to help me they don’t mind my questions. Sometimes there’s new information and I will take anything that aims at helping me. All I know is that the way I have been eating in the last five years has helped me be more energetic and alive. Prior to counting carbs, I lived quietly and sadly. (If you are interested in seeing what I do to control my hypoglycemia read the rest of this blog or read Fives Steps to Begin a Workout Routine. Also, watch for more posts.)

In spite of my positive experience, some would suggest that eliminating carbs is better. I am now seeing more and more articles about cutting out the carbs out of the hypoglycemic diet.

The basic idea behind this thought is that humans shouldn’t eat any grains or that we were not meant to eat as much grain as we now consume. Grains are making humans keep on the weight.

But then I think about glycogen. I would have to ignore the role of glucose in the body. Glycogen stores support muscle function so I’m a little skeptical because somehow I would have to go through a long period without being able to function. I’ve been carb less for a week before (due to a yeast infection that I controlled with diet. I only ate protein and vegetables that week) and trust me it didn’t work when it came to muscle function.

One premise behind eliminating carbs is that hypoglycemia is a result of hyperglycemia. Wheat and grains are now considered the culprit of hypoglycemia. According to this approach, even the correct portion size of grains is still considered too much. Hypoglycemia wouldn’t exist if I just didn’t consume carbs. This leaves meat and vegetables. Vegetables do contain carbs so I’m not sure if that is bad too.

Great fun isn’t it? No grains, no fruits, no carbs. Now I am left with these questions:

What about ketosis?

How does your brain function without carbs all day?
What are all those fruits for anyway?
If carbs make you gain weight then why am I not gaining weight like these new blogs postulate? I have always been thin.
Why is working out help me so much?
If consuming too many grains makes you voraciously hungry, why do I forget to eat? I ask this because I really would like to skip the snack and keep going on with what I have to do. I eat not because I am craving carbs but because not eating is not an option.
I mean no ill intent on the new information regarding hypoglycemia. If you have a solution, great! If this applies, to P A R T of the population that’s fantastic! I hope someone can answer my questions.
In the meantime, I’m going to suggest this:

Maybe humans were meant to be active and carbs support an active lifestyle; i.e., the right carbs in moderation.
If you’re curious too, here is a great article about carbs and ketosis:
